Vaccination Protocols for Puppies and Kittens

We provide routine core vaccinations for puppies and kittens.

Puppies receive a DHPP (Distemper/Hepatitis/Parainfluenza/Parvo Virus) vaccination every 3-4 weeks from 9 weeks of age to 16 weeks of age.  Weeks 12 and 16 are the most critical age for receiving this vaccination.  A 1-year rabies vaccination is received at 16 weeks of age.

Kittens receive an RCP (Rhinotracheitis/Calici/Panleukopenia) vaccination every 3-4 weeks from 9 weeks of age to 16 weeks of age.  A 1-year rabies vaccination is received at 16 weeks of age.

Vaccination Protocols for Dogs and Cats

At 1 year of age, dogs receive a 2-year DHPP (Distemper/Hepatitis/Parainfluenza/Parvo Virus) vaccination and a 3-year rabies vaccination.  Each subsequent DHPP and rabies vaccination lasts 3 years.

At 1 year of age, cats receive a 2-year RCP (Rhinotracheitis/Calici/Panleukopenia) vaccination and a 1-year, non-adjuvanted rabies vaccination.  Each subsequent RCP vaccination lasts 3 years.  Each subsequent rabies vaccination lasts 1 year.

Other Vaccinations

Other vaccinations may be recommended depending on your pet’s lifestyle and exposure potential.

It’s also important to note that even pets who live primarily indoors should be vaccinated, as they can still be exposed to a disease. Your Springfield Veterinary Center veterinarian can advise you which vaccinations are required or recommended for your pet based on age, health, and lifestyle.
