Steve Escobar, DVM

Dr. Escobar is a 1990 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) at Virginia Tech.  He received the prestigious “Outstanding Young Alumnus Award” from the college in 2001.

Dr. Escobar served as president of the Central Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (CVVMA) in 1995 and as legislative chair for the Virginia Veterinary medical Association (VVMA) for ten years. He served on the executive committee of the VVMA for four years and as president in 2004. Dr. Escobar was a member of the Dean Search Committee for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and serves on the Curriculum and Admissions, and Advisory Committee for the college. In 2011 Dr. Escobar was appointed by Governor Bob McDonnell to the Virginia Board of Health for four years and served on the executive committee and as vice chair. He currently serves as first vice president of the Virginia Horse Council representing the veterinary profession on that council. In 2007 he received the Distinguished Virginia Veterinarian award from the VVMA. 

He has special interests in canine reproductive medicine and pain management and is a member of both the Society for Theriogenology and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, having lectured and been published in both Proceedings and Journals. He is also a member of the VVMA, AVMA, and AAHA.
